WatchTogether Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
What We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect any personal data or account information.
- We do not store any user-identifying information on our servers.
- We do not track usage, analytics, or browsing history.
What the Extension Accesses
- Microphone — only when you explicitly click the microphone button to enable voice chat. Never accessed in the background.
- Camera — only when you explicitly click the camera button to enable video call. Never accessed in the background.
- Active tab URL — to detect whether you are on a supported streaming platform (YouTube, Netflix, etc.). Not stored or transmitted.
Server Data
- Room IDs and participant usernames are held in memory only for the duration of the active session.
- All room data is permanently deleted from the server when the last participant leaves.
- No logs of user activity, usernames, or room contents are written to disk.
Voice and Video
- Voice and video streams are transmitted peer-to-peer (WebRTC) directly between participants — they do not pass through our server.
- In cases where a direct peer connection cannot be established (strict firewalls), traffic is relayed through Metered.ca's TURN server infrastructure. Metered.ca does not record or store media streams.
- We do not record, store, or analyse any audio or video content.
Third-Party Services
- Render.com — hosts the WebSocket signalling server. Only room state (no personal data) is processed here.
- Metered.ca — provides TURN relay servers for WebRTC fallback. See their privacy policy at metered.ca.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date above will be updated. Continued use of the extension constitutes acceptance of the current policy.
